John Scascighini
was appointed West Wyalong Town crier in 1993,
in anticipation of the town's centenary celebrations which took place in
March 1994.
His duties on that occasion included;

After the west Wyalong centenary celebrations John
continued as West Wyalong Town crier, welcoming
bus loads of tourists to the town, giving keynote
cries at Australia day breakfasts, starting car
rallies and making appearances at special events
such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.

John says of Town
crying that it has many advantages;
 |
you get dressed
up in colourful clothing |
 |
you get lots of
invitations |
 |
when you don't
get invited you can crash without being arrested |
 |
you can say
almost anything you like in a loud voice and
nobody is offended. |
 |
kids give you
cuddles, girls give you hugs and men buy you
beers. |
 |
you can be
noisy, clumsy and rude without being
accused of
being drunk. |
 |
but the best
part is you get to meet some great people who
are always happy to see you! |

John's wife Rosemary is an important part of all
of his activities accompanying him in period
costume on all occasions and taking an active role
in dispensing good will and happiness.
