After the west Wyalong centenary celebrations John continued as West Wyalong Town crier, welcoming bus loads of tourists to the town, giving keynote cries at Australia day breakfasts, starting car rallies and making appearances at special events such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.

John says of Town crying that it has many advantages;

bullet

you get dressed up in colourful clothing

bullet

you get lots of invitations

bullet

when you don't get invited you can crash without being arrested

bullet

you can say almost anything you like in a loud voice and           nobody is offended.

bullet

kids give you cuddles, girls give you hugs and men buy you beers.

bullet

you can be noisy, clumsy and rude without being accused of
being drunk.

bullet

but the best part is you get to meet some great people who are always happy to see you!

John's wife Rosemary is an important part of all of his activities accompanying him in period costume on all occasions and taking an active role in dispensing good will and happiness.
